I work with TKC often and sometimes my work requires photos. Great to work with this truly kind crew.
Wishing TKC the best for a great 2019!

Josh Goralski has been working to build Community Businesses in Haiti, which are initiated by providing these long-term use ceramic water filters for the communities to sell and use. This past summer, Josh and I spent countless hours working through his mission and vision while forming and documenting a full business plan for this social enterprise. This fall Josh, and his Board of Directors, worked to incorporate and apply for 501(c)3 status to create a non-profit that focuses on his work...it is called Unlocking Communities. Our organizational mission is to unlock strengths to empower communities and elevate Haiti. To learn more about Josh's vision and to support the work that is already in beta communities in Haiti --- go to UnlockingCommunities.org

Here is a lovely trio! I even brought my lighting along for this one…once those are lit up…it is a party. Thankfully those big lights didn't scare these guys away!!
It is especially incredible to be asked to take photographs of a newborn. That time when you are just getting your legs under you, whether it be your first or your fourth baby, is such a delicate time for the whole family. From a mother's perspective, it is hard to find a time to invite cameras into your home when you are really just searching for a few more hours of rest for both you and your littlest people.
So I kick off the Christmas Countdown with a very special family who had added two additions to their family in 2014!
These boys have a lovely group to join with a big brother and a big sister to lean on...
The mom noted that she may just be realizing that she is a middle child in this photo!

I think it is casual, fun and a little bit unembellished (aka simple)…I guess that represents me well. What do you think?
Thank you to Bill Bostrom for your talents! His breadth of ideas and his way of working with my spotty and unclear feedback was amazing!

So my most appreciation goes to my family! My favorite subjects and those who I am very lucky (pun intended as the white furry guy is named Lucky), blessed and challenged to spend most every day with throughout the year. These are the people who I love the most...and who...I learned this year...I feel most guilty about not spending more time with when I am editing.
Sometimes I cannot even understand their beauty..I appreciate the beauty of so many others...but from day to day I am in awe of these people as I see all sides and (most days) appreciate all sides and their role in making our lives a richer and fuller experience.
I would have missed so much without you. Thank you God for my family. I am a better person to have really known each of you and the world is a better place with you.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my trusty camera gave to thee...eleven beachy moments, ten blue eyes smiling, nine months pre-walking, eight LP Zoo shots, seven in a hammock, six including Lucky, five people who sing! Four stuffy friends, three scene changes, two kiddos playing and a family with a new baby.

Love that this family brought their dog Lucky...he rounds out this fun group to six! This shoot was definitely late in the season..especially this year with the crazy weather but you would never know it as all heavy jackets ended up off. Our only issue this day was finding enough shade to fit all six of them!

]]>Gene's Care Package Efforts for the Homeless of Logan Square December 2013Gene Pellegrene Chicago Artist and Owner of Artist Painters, Photos by Photos by Juliet Gene has truly connected with the homeless who he would merely notice as he would drive by for years prior. He has taken it upon himself to become a reliable source for the homeless in Logan Square as Gene brings care packages to them on a regular basis for 36 weeks now. Gene's videos on YouTube tell the stories best of the men and women who he has helped.
What exactly goes into the care packages? How can you get your care packages to Gene? Well, Gene stresses calorie dense foods along with novel ideas for care packages like baby wipes, tums, ponchos, socks and first aid kits.
A full list of great ideas is included on the Beauty and Balance Salon of Kenilworth website. Salon owners Kelly and Dawn Stobart have partnered with Gene for this month to collect care packages from those who would like to make a donation if you live nearby in Chicagoland's North Shore.
If you live elsewhere you can check out Gene's site. In addition Gene suggests, on his Fund Anything page, that perhaps you may consider contributing directly to the homeless in your own area:
"Im finding the care packages have become a vehicle for connecting, understanding and providing human interaction. I urge people that live in similar populated areas where homelessness is present to create care packages for themselves and experience the positive effects on the recipients but most of all to themselves. I discovered I have gained in patience, empathy, I have a new perspective on life and am experiencing something wonderful."
My children and I assembled some bags with creative contents based on Gene's insights and dropped them off at Beauty and Balance Salon last month. My children included very thoughtful and hope-filled letters to the recipients. It really helped us all to put ourselves in the shoes of the recipient. Thank you Gene for your dedication and for introducing us to the homeless members of your community who you have come to know. Your video blogs are an honest look at how connected we all are to one another as they share their unique circumstances and challenges.

BTW, you have to love how that little lady looks at her big brothers!
Don't get me wrong on the location recommendation...I love Lake Michigan for photographs the very most and the more trees the better...but sometimes it just works to pop out into your yard and catch a few photos and go on with your day! Like these sisters who I photographed last month...
